Why Spring Is the Best Time to actually start (not just think about starting)
Every year it’s the same story. January rolls around, the resolutions are pouring the doors of Hiscoes and then by the end of Feb we’re back to the regulars. You know what? January isn’t the greatest season to start a new fitness routine in.
Spring – not new year – is when your body and your brain is ready for a change, and potentially there’s less distractions!
Your body wakes up before you do
Winter is built for hibernation. Shorter days mean less daylight, and less daylight means your body produces more melatonin, the hormone that makes you sleepy and, frankly, makes a 6pm workout feel like climbing Everest. It’s not laziness. It’s biology. But the days are already getting longer again and the sun is now playing tip with my morning alarm again. Hopefully that natural energy dip is starting to lift.
Nobody’s Watching (In a Good Way)
There’s a strange pressure that comes with a January start. Everyone’s doing it at once, gyms are packed, and there’s this unspoken feeling that if you fall off, you’ve somehow failed at the thing everyone else is succeeding at.
Spring doesn’t come with that baggage. You’re not one of ten thousand people making the same identikit resolution. You’re just someone who noticed the weather turning and decided it was a good time to feel stronger. That’s a much easier story to stick with.
Warm weather is coming, it’s not already here
Starting in spring means you build momentum before the heat and the social calendar of summer hits. By the time Christmas parties, beach days, and long lunches roll around, you’ve already got three months of consistency behind you – and that’s where you want to be!
Compare that to a January start, where you’re trying to build a habit in the depths of summer chaos, or trying to muscle through winter with zero daylight and zero momentum. Spring gives you the runway.
It’s a natural reset, even if you’ve never trained before
Plenty of people training with us right now have never set foot in a gym before, and some are coming back after a big break. Spring just has this way of making a fresh start feel less like a big declaration and more like… life.
This is exactly why we built our September 9-week challenge
September is when people are genuinely ready, not resolution-ready, but actually-feeling-it ready.
Hiscoes 9 week challenge is designed around exactly this moment: the energy shift, the extra daylight, the runway into summer. Whether you’re back for the first time in years or you’ve never walked through our doors, this is the version of “starting” that tends to actually stick.
Group challenge sessions, personal training, nutrition guidance, the lot — it’s all here, and this September, it’s all on the table.
Grab a spot before the challenge kicks off on August 29. Spring’s already doing half the work for you!
